SINGY - LAST DAY
ARE WE GETTING OLD OR JUST SLIGHTLY DAMAGED?
Today, our last day here in Singapore we decided to take a hop on hop off bus tour. We chose the heritage tour which was to take us through China Town, Little India and several places of national heritage/interest.
Started off really well….our plan of attack was to ride the whole circular route which takes about an hour or so depending on traffic, and then to decide from there where to get off on the next circuit.
Well things don’t always go according to plan…..it was hot and humid and loads of humans roaming freely. As we drove through Little India it was interesting to see but neither of us wanted to get off. Apparently it’s famous for cheap jewellery due to there being no tax but even that didn’t entice us off.
Passed places such as the Raffles Hospital which its claim to fame is being one of the first to successfully seperate conjoined twins. Passed many fancy shopping malls etc but nothing screamed ….you MUST get off that bus and explore here!
We got off in China town where we first picked up the bus. Simon had spotted a Tintin shop that he wanted to visit to part with some money and which he did reasonable well at!!
Chinatown Murals and street scenes.
Hawkers Market Maxwell Street, Singapore. Temperatue 35°C - Humidity - Stupid.
I wanted to try lunch at a Hawker centre. It’s basically street food in a massive under cover food court and is popular in this region. I took one look, and one walk through and bailed!!! Too overwhelming and nowhere to sit.
Finally found somewhere reasonable to grab a quick bite and something to drink. The heat was beginning to get to me and I didn’t want to become ill as I had previously when we went to Uluru.
I had a quick browse around the market shops, plenty of lovely clothes but no room in case sadly.
So we decided to head back to the hotel. We had been out and about for about 5 hours all up and it was time to ice Simon’s foot.
So Singapore impression for us….great place and you feel very safe here. Plenty to see and do and somewhere we will come back to, in the not so distant future, to explore and to decide if we are getting old or just a little bit broken at the moment to be able to explore to the fullest what Singapore has to offer.
Travelling on the MRT (Mass Rapid Transport System - similar to the London Underground) an excellent way of getting around Singapore.
