The Rail Journey Map.
Goodbye Norway hello IKEA…I mean Sweden!
So we embarked on our first real train trip for this journey of ours. We boarded with plenty of time to chose our seats, and grab something to eat and drink. We were going to go into the quiet carriage but then thought better of it. Wish we had really. There was a young lady sat across from us who insisted in talking in, what seemed to us, to be a rather loud voice. Gosh I so wished she would hurry up and run out of words!!! After about an hour non stop yakety yak she ceased.
We passed through some lovely scenery that is, and was, difficult to capture on camera. Think pine forests interspersed with a patchwork of fields and you’ll get the idea. There appeared to be a lot of tree cutting down too and I mentioned it Simon that I would like to think that these were all sustainable forests. Simon’s response was straight to the point..” I bet Mr IKEA owns all of these”

Our hotel was exactly where we had planned it to be and that was stones throw away from the train station. Whilst having one night stops we figured these would be our best option for convenience. Again we were able to check in early which left us free of luggage to explore the City of Goteborg.
Simon was right, there was no Batman and Robin, but there was an Art Gallery and a Hasselblad museum. (Hasselblad is Simon’s dream make of camera.)

The Hasselblad and photography exhibition was fantastic and held our attention. The Art gallery was interesting but as we are not really into Art in a major way we quickly lost interest after seeing some original Monet’s and Picasso’s. We were both a bit ‘museuemed out’ to be honest and on another day we may have stayed longer at the gallery.
Ate out for the first time this evening and had a fantastic pizza at a restaurant called Deg. One which will go down in my history book along with the pizza I had in Contis Plage many many moons ago when Oliver was around 3 years old!
Happy to report that things are cheaper here in Sweden than in Norway. Did I mention that yesterday it cost me £1.50/$3.00 just to use the loo at the train station? Now that really is taking the proverbial !!
Next Stop is Malmo which is quite close to the coast. Looking at the maps we may even get to wander around a Marina or shoreline.
