Malmö SWEDEN
Train Journey Gothenburg to Malmo.
Malmo…for one day only. Whilst waiting at the station for our train to Malmo Simon commented on the two umlauts above the letter O made it look like a face with a very large open mouth. I have not been able to un-see that since …and now maybe neither can you.
Our hotel was an unusual boutiquey style. It was built in 1902 as a steam kitchen. The steam kitchens are said to have fed the poor. We were surprised to realise that breakfast, afternoon tea ( fika) and dinner was included as ‘standard’. Neither Simon nor I expected great things but the food provided was varied and plentiful.
Having left our bags at the hotel we wandered down to the quayside which was about a 30 minute walk through a beautiful park. Spent about an hour here enjoying a beverage and some nibbles to keep us going for a while. We had decided that we would just chill out and soak up the atmosphere today rather than head off to museums etc. As we wandered around the old town it was interesting to note that many of the buildings had been there since the very early 1700’s.
Malmo was much quieter than Oslo and Goteborg….except at night when the old city came alive with lots of ‘very happy’ people. The windows provided excellent soundproofing once closed though.
As we travelled today Simon noticed that we had left the mountainous landscape behind. From here on in it was countryside. Tomorrow we have our biggest train journey so far which will be just over 5 hours. Wonder what the landscape will reveal.
