family time-DON’T LOOK BUT WE ARE SINKING!

Fantastic day with Gary and the girl crew…aka Elise, Summer and Millie. Also met Elise’s mum Angela who was visiting from UK.
Gary kindly picked us up from our hotel and drove us to his home in Malaysia.

Eco Tourism Kampung Sungai Melayu

By mid morning we were on our way to embark on an eco-boat trip around the Mangroves. Elise drove the girls whilst, Gary Simon and I took a “grab” which is basically an uber/ taxi. Drove along some dodgy roads with craters disguised as pot holes. Don’t think the driver was impressed as she stopped the car near a junction and told us to turn left and walk down there. Which we did only to find an extremely poor and run down area which was in fact about a 10-15 minute walk to where we should be. So off we set on foot and moon boot through rainforest/ jungle type area.  All the while mobile phone signal was hit and miss and Gary could not get hold of Elise. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the skies did not dump a load of rain us because they certainty threatened to, saw a few small monkeys in the trees as we passed by which was a bonus.

We eventually reach the”marina”. No large boats in sight just a few small tinnies and some men bailing water out of them.  Next we were being ushered towards said small boats. This did not bode well, and at this point, I was certainly hoping there were no crocs in the mangroves as I did not fancy my chances. But ah well, the crocs can only eat us once!

Turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences. We saw several snakes curled up in trees sleeping on the branches over the water ( tried not think that we were going under these overhanging branches by the way), and a few monitor lizards.

Once back on dry land it was off the Rockerfellas for some lunch which was next to another marina. This one was had quite a few fancy boats and yacht’s moored up including which Gary thought was one belonging to the Sultan.

Day finished with a visit to the club house within the local neighboured Gary and his family live. We sat and enjoyed a beverage whilst the two children swam.

On our way back we saw so many Monkeys. Elise had been hoping we would see these as she sees them most days. Quite a sight to behold.

Huge heartfelt thank you to Gary and his family. An amazing day spent with beautiful people….. nothing was too much trouble.  We next hope to see Gary and the girl crew back in Oz one day.

Bicarb

This dodgy looking substance is actually some bicarb that Simon takes with milk for occasional heartburn. Really didn’t fancy our chances trying to explain this to the Singapore authorities so we thought it best to put it out of sight.
