More of Amsterdam

23- 25 November: The past few days have been just as busy!

Our Thursday started with breakfast at Ted’s, then went off to our canal cruise where we had a bit of a history tour and some jokes along the way from the tour guide. Saw the old rich houses that are offices now and the “poor area” which is now, well, just the same. Next, we went  to This is Holland. WOW. A highlight of our trip. The 5D roller coaster we went on was amazing! It took us on a “flight” around all of the Netherlands where we saw many windmills and “experienced” some rather rocky weather.

Then we set off to the Amsterdam lookout. We thought about going on the swing but it looked a bit boring, so we headed back into the city for some of Amsterdam’s famous chips! We had a bit of time so did a small history tour, nothing major.

A visit to Anne Franks house was next on our agenda. Something Caitlin has wanted to do for so long and it was totally worth the wait. From my understanding it is hard to get tickets there, as we had been told by a few people. This was an amazing tour with a fascinating talk. Once in the house there were no photos allowed. But it was a true eye opener to know what they endured for 2 years!

Come Friday, our go city passes had run out so we took the opportunity to have a “slower” day which still amounted to an 18km day of walking. The day started at a restaurant called “Pluk” for breaky (I forgot to take a photo) then full of food we were ready for the day ahead.  First on the “to do list” was the not so glamours laundry. After this we walked around trying to find somewhere to eat  (it’s hungry work doing laundry) and stumbled across a South African restaurant where we had  some of the best food ever! Our day finished off with a walk around the city and going to the famous Stroopwaffel Place.
Now, after yet another cancelled train, we are on our way to Berlin. A 6 hour train journey ahead of us, which we are told goes through some beautiful countryside. Missing you all at home. Blog more from Berlin.
