Rome - More Pizza!

Day One

Rome has been one of a kind. Seeing the city for what it is now and what it used to be is pretty cool. After the night train we headed straight to our apartment and had a shower and got ready for the night. We found a small pizza restaurant which had some of the best pizza we’ve ever had (we did return here too). Following a bit of sight seeing and wondering around for a while we found ourselves a bar and sat down to have some cocktails. Very expensive compared to Poland but believe it or not on the first night we found the best and cheapest bar in Rome (in our opinion) so obviously that was our local for the few days. We also didn’t notice for a while that it had a view of the Colosseum.

Day Two

Day 2 was our tour of the Roman Forum  and Colosseum. We saw some pretty big groups walking around and we were so happy that our group was only 7 including us.  An amazing  tour was enjoyed and the tour guide was so knowledgeable. She said you could do a 4-5 hour tour just of the forum because of the history. Seeing the colosseum did not feel real. Our guide busted a few myths and told some really cool stories. It is insane to think what life used to be like….. and entrance was free for everyone in those days?! We were very tired and hungry after so we got some more pizza (no surprise there) and headed home for some rest before yet another night on the town.

Day Three

Day 3: It was a public holiday for the Roman’s and we had no idea. We had planned to head to the Vatican that day so off we went. After googling places to eat we saw it was the feast of immaculate conception. (A catholic holiday that marks the start of Christmas). It became very clear it was a public holiday when you could barely move two feet. Once we were in the Vatican we saw everyone standing around and just assumed it was a day to come to the Pope’s house. And then everyone started cheering……then the Pope made an appearance! He did a huge speech in Italian and everyone cheered. We just cheered when we thought we had to (as the saying goes, when in Rome…..do what the Romans do). Pretty cool accidental activity I’d say. We loved Rome but we can’t finish without saying the hagglers!!! Every second someone tried to sell something. We released fairly quickly, as much as it’s not in our nature, the best way to go about it is just ignore them. They all had the same line “hey man. Woah you’re tall. You play basketball. Football. Where you from?” They didn’t put us off though. We will definitely be back! We are off the Venice now on the train. The views of Italy are beautiful. I think exploring the rest of Italy might be in our list

The Pantheon and Trevi Fountain

Oh, and the weather. It has been lovely NOT to see snow everywhere. In our first few hours of of arriving in Rome we got to take our coats off.
