The Jurassic Coast

Lulworth Cove

Corfe Catle

Durdle Door, a famous national heritage site we visited 20 years ago, was a place Simon really wanted to photograph. So, we got up early, packed the camera gear, and set off—well, drove off, since it was too far to walk. Our hearts sank when we found the road closed into Durdle Door until 9 am! We thought it was open to everyone. We tried to park nearby to walk the rest, but the roadside was full of the dreaded double yellow lines.

Having left at 4:30 am and with plenty of time, we drove to Lulworth Cove. It’s a little more built up than we remembered but still beautiful, and Simon took great photos. After spending 1 hour and 10 minutes outside the car, we returned to find the parking charge was £12.80! We were 10 minutes over the 1-hour limit, so the only other option was a 4-hour ticket. After some panicked breaths and feeling faint, we calmed down and paid the ransom fee to get out.

That afternoon, we visited Chesil Beach on the Jurassic Coast. It’s amazing to think how long these smooth pebbles have been here for, stretching as far as you can see. (If it’s clear, you might see even further!) We ended the day at Overcombe Beach, watching hydrofoil surfers and listening to a DJ playing ’80s music as the drizzle and wind stopped finally stopped and the sun came back out.

On today’s agenda was Lyme Regis.  Our children have visited this beach at least once whilst staying with their Uncle Steve. We do have a few fossils from this area that were sourced by Oliver and Caitlin.
We had a lay in this morning and didn’t get out of the house until around 7 am. Lyme Regis was like a ghost town when we first arrived….exactly how we like towns, and shops were just opening up. Weather was typically British Summer…..overcast and cool, but at least for now it was dry.
Quaint little seaside town which we spent some time perusing  the “boutique” style shops and galleries. Spent a few hours only here as Simon’s foot was acting like a neglected person, gently reminding him that it was still “poorly” and started sulking a bit ….the foot not Simon!
Plan is to go back tomorrow at stupid o’clock to get some sunrise photos providing the weather plays ball.
